This painting symbolizes the life-saving oral cancer medications that have helped me and others survive cancer for much longer than we might have dreamed possible.
During my hospital stay for a major cancer treatment, every morning a nurse woke me up - way too early - to give me a little pill cup of colorful meds. I just had to paint this breakfast “appetizer” as it sat on my bed tray in the perfect morning light.
Of all the medications I’ve taken to destroy the cancer gremlins in my blood, painting is my absolute wonder drug! When I’m painting, I don’t notice the unpleasant side effects caused by years of chemo treatments. I get lost in a world of creativity where cancer doesn’t rule. Painting also helps to quiet the fear of what’s next.
